In-Flight Skin Rescue

Having only ventured on to a plane for the third time in my life this week I may not be the expert with it comes to all things flying, but one thing I do know is that it reeks havoc with my skin. On my first trip I donned a full face of make up not knowing that by the end of the flight and hours of recycled air later I'd want to pull my skin off it felt so awful. A lesson was sufficiently learnt and this time I came prepared.

August Favourites

August has drawn to a close in what seems like lightening speed so once again it's time to share with you my favourite products from the month. From a new ultimate shampoo/conditioner duo to a well loved oldie thats been given a revamp, see what I couldn't keep my hands off over the last four weeks below!

It's Your Prime - An Introduction to Smashbox

Smashbox is a brand I've always admired from afar, but having no counter to swatch colours and test textures I've never owned a great deal from them. All that's about to change however as recently the brand has been rolled out into larger Boots stores, making things a whole lot more accessible - oh how my bank balance weeps.

Mom Jeans

Another day, another item of floral clothing. I'm by no means a girly girl when it comes to style, but similarly with the trousers from my last fashion post I've been loving all things bright, flowery and printed. This bomber jacket* from She Inside is the perfect lightweight piece to throw on now it's getting a little colder and adds a bit of colour to an outfit, something I'm guilty of never wearing!

The Skin Recovery Facial

I've found myself taking a far more laid back approach when it comes to make up these days. No longer do I feel the need to be contoured, highlighted and lined to within an inch of my life and I've really been enjoying using minimal products for a simple everyday look. The same can't be said unfortunately for skincare.

Halloween Nails

Models Own Fluro' Orange & Snow White, H&M Moody Model

Bit of a lackluster Halloween this year, I haven't even dressed up! Did these nails this evening while watching Simpsons Halloween specials on sky and trying to resist the urge to go trick or treating. Such a child at heart. What's everyone else been up to today?

Winter Coat Wishlist

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6

I've been putting off buying this years winter coat for a while now as it still only October and I'm sure in a few months time the shops are going to be full of them, but its getting so cold and dark now I don't think I can wait much longer. Trying to decided whether to go for a traditional coat, or an oversized blazer style after seeing Kate from Ghostparties teaming hers with a faux fur stole and pretty much making my ultimate winter coat by doing so. I really like the two neck tie style ones from Topshop but I think they'd have to be fully done up to look right, and I'd like to have to option of wearing it open. So much indecision over a coat! Ahh! Has anyone else bought theirs yet?

Little Lace Collar

Lace Collar: Little Me
T-shirt: Topshop

I love how an accessory can completely transform an outfit and this lace collar from Little Me is becoming my favourite thing to wear recently. For nearly a year now I've been lusting after one of Wallpaper Rose's Lace Peter Pan Collar T-shirts, but whenever I come to order one, I either can't decided on a colour or they're out of stock! With a detachable collar like this though, its great to throw over anything.

Amazingly, I'm coming up to 500 followers now and have been thinking about doing a little giveaway to say thank you to everyone thats been reading my ramblings for the past 6 months! Not sure what to actually giveaway though so if anyone has any suggestions or just something they're coveting at the moment let me know, I'd love to get some ideas from you all!

This Week #10

01. Every year the village I grew up in has a carnival with floats, lots of food and cute little stalls. Over the years its gotten a bit tacky, but I still love going and throughly stuffing my face with doughnuts and candy floss! I'm thinking of making some flags like these using one of Gem's old Tuesday TIps to hang in the kitchen.

02+03. In the village we found a little cafe tucked away behind a jewellery shop. I've lived there most of my life and never knew it existed! Couldn't resist the hot chocolate with marshmallows which are unsurprisingly absent for this photo as I'd scoffed them all before even making it to the table. How ladylike.

04. After trying and failing at dipping little bits of sponge into nail varnish, this is my lazy take on cosmic nails using Andrea Fulerton's Mischa and Models Own Juicy Jules. So much easier to just put a coat of each on and I think I prefer the understated starry effect.

October GlossyBox

Robert Piguet Eau De Parfums / Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in Moray / Leighton Denny Expert Nails in Hanky-Panky / Dermalogica Age Smart MultiVitamin Thermafoliant / Dermalogica Age Smart Multivitamin Power Recover Masque / Dermalogica Age Smart Renewal Lip Complex (inside beauty bag)

I didn't know whether or not to do this post as most of the world now seems to be blogging about GlossyBox but I thought I'd quickly show you what I got. I've wanted to try Dermalogica for a long time, and being quite into anti-aging at the moment (can’t do enough to prevent ‘them wrinkles!) I'm excited to use these samples. I also think its great to have a few different bits from the same brand so you really get the full effect of using a whole system. Then again, that might not be diverse enough for some people, so I think this month’s box might cause some contraversy.

After snooping around other reviews before hand, I was excited to see the Leighton Denny nail varnish in there. I've wanted try something from his brand for a while too, but as soon as I opened it I thought 'typical'. Such a horrible colour! That may just be my taste and I'm sure it would look lovely on someone else, but metallic neon orange? Really? I definitely think there should be a way of choosing the colours of things like make up or nail products before receiving them because I know for a fact I'll never use this and unless I give it away, it’s just sitting in a draw wasted. Either that or someone should set up a GlossyBox swap site for all those poor unwanted products! One bloggers trash could be another's treasure!

Ebay

River Island Loafers / Topshop Aztec Knit Jumper / Topshop Coral Lace Shirt

Managed to have a bit of a floordrobe wardrobe clear out this week, not that I can ever say goodbye to clothes no matter how little I wear them. Ended up keeping some ridiculous things, from dresses I'm convinced I've had since before college that still have the labels on to hundreds of old jeans that I keep meaning to turn into shorts. Hoarder for life. Somehow though, a few bits have ended up packed and on eBay. If anyone wants to check them out, have a look here!

Liz Earle

Instant Boost Skin Tonic, Skin Repair Light Moisturiser, Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, Superskin Concentrate

First of all, this is not a sponsored post; I've bought all of these products myself. I know Liz Earle send out a lot of their products to bloggers to review, which is great, but I think that can sometimes cloud people's opinions slightly.

For a long time I've used Liz Earle skincare in my regime, but never all the products together. As we all know I'm a bit of a product obsessive, so if I see something I don’t already have, I'll more than likely end up buying it. Most of these products (particularly cleansers) get used once or twice then left on a shelf to gather dust, but Liz Earle is the one brand I will always come back to. I've used a few products here and there, but never all at once, so I decided that for a whole month I'd use Liz Earle and nothing else. I'm a big believer in using products from one brand to get the best out of them (sucker for marketing), so I've been using the Hot Cloth Cleanser, Skin Tonic, Light Moisturiser and the Superskin Concentrate oil.

Starting with the Cleanse & Polish, I massage a pump on to dry skin which melts makeup away, then polish it off with a muslin cloth soaked in warm water. It really does make your skin feel instantly softer thanks to the cocoa butter its enriched with, and removes every trace of makeup. No dry stripped feeling or tightness of the skin at all. Then I use the Skin Tonic which again, isn’t stripping and smells absolutely heavenly. The most refreshing toner I've ever used.

I've found that the dry/sensitive and even the normal/combination moisturisers can be quite heavy and thick, despite not having particularly oily skin. The Skin Repair Light Moisturiser however, is perfect. You need the smallest pump of this, literally the size of a pea, for the whole face. Its very moisturising, but not heavy. At night I like to us the Superskin Concentrate as well, which comes with a roller ball, all over the top of the moisturiser to give my skin a extra bit of hydration, as well as balancing out any excessive oiliness.

After using all these religiously over the last month I really am amazed at how good my skin feels. So soft and glowy, I've actually needed to use less foundation than normal because I don't have so much to cover. Its nice as well to use a whole line of skincare, instead of picking and choosing from lots of different brands. I think I’ll be sticking to this regime for a while and definitely recommend trying out these products yourself!

Bowie

Hat: Love Clothing
Top: Primark Men's
Skirt: Miss Selfridge
Necklace: Forever 21

This outfit is probably one of my favourites at the moment. I’m annoyed that my lounge isn’t big enough to be able to photograph from the knees down but this skirt from Miss Selfridge, photo here, is amazing! I’ve always been a mini skirt girl but I’m really getting into longer lengths at the moment, especially as its getting a colder and my legs are getting paler (if that’s possible).

I love how easily a t-shirt can be dressed up with the right accessories. I’ve been wanting a lace collar for ages and found the perfect one today on Sophie’s shop, Little Me. Also couldn’t say no to the amazing faux leather bow tie!

This Week #09

01. The massive pile of make up taking up my bedroom windowsill. I wish I had room for a nice dressing table but there’s barely enough space to move around in there at the moment. I’m thinking of doing a blog sale soon as the amount of makeup and odd bits I have is getting beyond ridiculous.

02. Taking advantage of the student discount I still get on Topshop.com, despite no longer actually being a student. Really loving all their nail varnishes at the moment; colours you can’t find anywhere else and formulas that might just rival my beloved Models Own. I’ve been wearing ‘cut the mustard’ for nearly a week and it’s yet to chip!

03. I love this time of year when days become shorter and its dark by 6. Autumn and winter are definitely my favourite seasons. The layered up fashion with chunky scarves and the search for the all important winter coat! Also desperate to whack out the Christmas tree!

04. Still completely in love with this blazer!

05. In an effort to improve my skin, I’ve been trying to eat a bit better recently and started getting Graze boxes delivered twice a week. For £3.49 you get four healthy snacks which are great to grab when you’re feeling peckish. So far, everything I’ve had has tasted amazing, especially the dark chocolate button and Brazil nut mix which is a nice change to my usual pack of plain cream crackers (omnomnom). Even better, you can use the code 1JM4CJ1 for a free Graze box!

Braided

Top: Warehouse
Jeans: Primark
Lipstick: Topshop Rapturous

Today has so far consisted of being stuck at home waiting for a parcel to arrive. I think the heat wave we've been having over the last couple of days has ended so its back to jeans! I've been living in these camel ones all week. So comfy! I got this top in the asos sale and didn't realise that it was a size 16. It’s so long, literally down to my knees, but doesn’t really work as a dress. Surely I'm the only person capable of ordering the wrong size clothing online?

I've been wearing my fringe in a big chunky plait a lot, just too give it some oomph. I've been trying not to use a hairdryer recently because my hairs starting to become a bit frazzled but it's been leaving it really flat and lifeless. I've been thinking about getting some sort of curling tong to give it a bit more volume, even though that’s probably equally as bad! Can't decided between this intriguing looking Remingotn double pronged styler or the beauty bloggers favourite, the Babyliss Pro Conical Wand. Any recommendations?

Recent Buys

Blazer, Mustard Top: New Look
Bag, Hat, Bowie Tee, Dress, Scarves: Primark
Faux Fur Stole: H&M

There are so many beautiful autumn colours, prints and textures on the high street at the moment! The long cut midi skirts, slouchy boyfirend blazers and mustard hues all make me want to throw on a thousand layers and embrace that bitter cold wind. I think this rusty brown blazer (which I practically sprinted for in New Look today) is going to become my autumn staple this year, so in love with the way it completes every outfit I put it with.
