In-Flight Skin Rescue

Having only ventured on to a plane for the third time in my life this week I may not be the expert with it comes to all things flying, but one thing I do know is that it reeks havoc with my skin. On my first trip I donned a full face of make up not knowing that by the end of the flight and hours of recycled air later I'd want to pull my skin off it felt so awful. A lesson was sufficiently learnt and this time I came prepared.

August Favourites

August has drawn to a close in what seems like lightening speed so once again it's time to share with you my favourite products from the month. From a new ultimate shampoo/conditioner duo to a well loved oldie thats been given a revamp, see what I couldn't keep my hands off over the last four weeks below!

It's Your Prime - An Introduction to Smashbox

Smashbox is a brand I've always admired from afar, but having no counter to swatch colours and test textures I've never owned a great deal from them. All that's about to change however as recently the brand has been rolled out into larger Boots stores, making things a whole lot more accessible - oh how my bank balance weeps.

Mom Jeans

Another day, another item of floral clothing. I'm by no means a girly girl when it comes to style, but similarly with the trousers from my last fashion post I've been loving all things bright, flowery and printed. This bomber jacket* from She Inside is the perfect lightweight piece to throw on now it's getting a little colder and adds a bit of colour to an outfit, something I'm guilty of never wearing!

The Skin Recovery Facial

I've found myself taking a far more laid back approach when it comes to make up these days. No longer do I feel the need to be contoured, highlighted and lined to within an inch of my life and I've really been enjoying using minimal products for a simple everyday look. The same can't be said unfortunately for skincare.

This week #01

01. New bits that arrived in the post this week. Is there anything better than opening packages full of lovely things? Its just like Christmas!

02. The only thing Me and Darren have been drinking! Love the summer fruits version too. Yum yum!

03. We were driving around on Tuesday afternoon, past the Isle of Wight, and I couldn't believe how beautiful it was. Stopped off for an ice cream and watched the sea. Sure I could hear the IOW festival all the way from the beach!

04. My two new favourite necklaces, both Forever 21. Love poking people with the chunky claw!

05. Reese's peanut butter cups! I’ve been wanting to try these for so so so long. I am a self confessed peanut butter addict, and when Darren's mum bought these back from New York I went a little crazy. Needless to say, they were all gone in under 10 minutes.

Topshop Wishlist

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8

Just noticed that all these items are very orange themed..

I don't have a Topshop that stocks make up nearby so I went on the website purely to buy the new Head Over Heels blush and got dragged in by the free shipping offer for spending over £75. Is it just me that can't help but be sucked in by deals like this?

I'm so in to the high neck style dresses that are everywhere at the moment, and thought this peach colour was lovely. I can imagine wearing this with the tortoise shell sunglasses and a big floppy hat, although I'm yet to find the perfect one!

As soon as I saw this ring it reminded me of the Pamela Love triangle that I've been lusting over. I love all the jewellery in the collection but the prices leave me weeping. Cheaper imitations will just have to do for now!

I don't really go for heels, mainly due to the constant possibility of falling flat on my face, but I love the way they make an outfit look and I think these lacey brogues have the perfect amount of heel to ease me in. Plus, they're super cute! Although I'd probably get them dirty within an hour. Why are white shoes so attracted to the slightest bit of mud?!

Top Button, Top Knot

Shirt: New Look
Shorts: DIY Levi's
Rings: Asos, Covet

It’s been so hot recently that I haven’t really wanted to wear anything. Most of my wardrobe is still mainly winter clothes, bit ridiculous for June, no? But I fished around in a few draws and dug out the old DIY Levi’s that have been my go to shorts for the last 92821 years and threw on a sheer shirt. Still not sure how I feel about the top button though, I think it reminds me too much of school.

I’ve been wearing my hair up so much recently, mainly for work, and I’ve been itching to cut it so I can just have a simple little pony tail instead of wasting ten minutes in the morning trying to get it to do what I want it to. I’ve had long hair for as long as I can remember, so I’m a bit hesitant to go for the big chop. Just feel like I need a change.

How’s everyone else handling the hot weather?

F&F Wishlist

All F&F @ Tesco

I’ve been hearing good things recently about the new F&F Collection so I decided to potter on over to the website, too lazy to drive the 10 miles to the nearest store, and have a look for myself. I really like the colour palette: mint greens, corals, pastels, everything that screams summer to me. I went a bit playsuit crazy and bought 6. All returnable! Bows, ditsy florals and block colours all seemed to be the themes there. I can imagine them all paired with a tan belt and a pair of sadals. Lovely. I thought the straw bow bag was just too cute not to get and at £8, why not! I’m interested to see what they all look like in real life. Stay tuned!

May Favorites

No7 Heavenly Hydration // Never really been a big fan of moisturising masks, I tend to go for deep cleansing ones but after seeing this at work and using it on and off for a week I think I’m in love. It’s basically a thick moisturiser that you leave on the skin for about 3 minutes, (although I always leave it for longer) then wipe it off with warm cloth, leaving you with lovely supple skin.

Boots Vitamin E facial Oil // I’ve been searching for a while now without much luck for a night cream that doesn’t fade away and leave my skin feeling tight when I wake up. When most people think about putting oil on their skin, breakouts and clogged pores probably come to mind, as they did to mine, but I saw this in Boots and thought I might as well give it a go and for only £2 I wasn’t really wasting my money. I put on my normal moisturiser then mixed in a few drops of this, went to bed and woke up in the morning with what looked like freshly moisturised skin. No excessive oiliness or blemishes! I’ve been using it every night for the last few weeks and it still impresses me. Really recommend not being scared of using oil on your skin and getting this product.

Garnier Summer Body // I know this one’s been making the rounds so I thought I might as well try it. A few years ago I was a St Tropez addict up until the point my friends had to stage an intervention involving a loofa and a bin bag. Bad, I know. But after a little hesitation to get back on the tan wagon, I went out and bought it anyway. At first I got the light version, thinking the deep would turn my pasty legs orange, used it for a few days and didn’t really see any difference apart from a faint lingering tan smell. So I went and got the deep version and woke up the next day with the most natural looking glow. Amazing! Can’t believe I never looked into the world of gradual tanners until now.

No7 Bronzing Silk Legs // When there just isn’t time to tan I always like to use a bit of an instant bronzer and this has to be the best one I’ve come across. Unlike most instant tans it has a creamy formula, more like a foundation, as opposed to a dark jelly which streaks so easily and comes out almost orange. I’m looking at you Rimmel. I put this on with a mitt and, voila, instantly glowing legs in thirty seconds.

Flat Top Brush // I lusted after the Sigma flat top kabuki for so long, finally decided I couldn’t afford it, and bought one on eBay for about £2.50. I’m sure it’ll never compare to the original, but I love it anyway. I use it to apply my foundation by basically just buffing it in, and have never had such a flawless, smooth, perfect finish!

Seche Ultra-V Top Coat // I’d like to thank Gem for this little miracle. The only time I ever seem to get to do my nails is right before bed, and no matter what top coat I use, how long I leave them to dry or what awkward position I sleep in, I always wake up with fabric imprints all over my nails. So frustrating. After putting it on like a regular top coat, you cure the nails under UV light, I got mine for about £9 from eBay, for three minutes to harden and set the polish and you’re ready to go. Who doesn’t love a bit of a gimmick? But it really does work! My nails have been smudge and chip free for almost a week now, something practically unheard of after ripping open boxes every morning at work. The best bit about it is the wet look shine that stays as long as the colour does. Really amazing product that I think everyone who’s tired of chips should try out.

Origins GinZing Eye Cream // Got a free sample of this a while back and decided I had to buy the whole thing after cutting open the tube and scraping the last little drops out with a cotton bud. I’ve used a lot of eye creams, and find that some of them can leave my eyes puffy, the opposite of what they’re supposed to be doing! But this one is so gentle and smooth and just brightens up my dark circles and keeps my eyes moisturised. Smells great too!

Botanics Soothing Cleansing Balm // When it comes to cleansers, I find that unless I’m using something with a cloth, my skin really doesn’t feel like it’s been cleaned as deeply as I’d like it to. I will always have an undying love for my Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, but this new discovery is possibly even better. When you scoop a bit out its quite hard and you can feel the crystals of the balm, but then after rubbing it into the skin it melts away and feels and smells just wonderful. The only bad thing I have to say about it is the cotton cloth it comes with which is absolutely awful. I ended up throwing mine away after it took none of the product off my face. I just used one of the thousand muslin cloths I have lying around which worked perfectly. My skin felt amazing after using this just once. So nourished and soft which probably has something to do with the Shea butter that it also contains. And it’s organic! Definitely one of my all time favourite products!
