Make Up Haul & First Impressions

7/11/2015

I think we all know the drill by now - I got spendy in the make up aisles and have a pile of goodies to show for it! Instead of a usual chatty haul however, I decided to try out the products I picked up and give you my first impressions of them as we go! Basically, the title of this video should have been 'watch me play with make up' and I have to say, I was pretty impressed with how well everything lived up to my expectations..

June Favourites

7/06/2015

So we've made it six months into the year and in record time no less, during which my beauty favourites have been well and truly stacking up. I'll have a full rundown of my most used products from the first half of the year coming to you soon which will be covering all bases from skincare to make up, so for June's addition I kept it short and sweet - or at least that was the intention. Cue a twelve minute ramble including my thoughts on blue eyeliner, scalp exfoliation and the best way to tackle in-shower tanning!

February Favourites

3/03/2015

I get tired of saying this nearly every month, but February really has flown by. Spring is definitely in the air and I'm finally starting to shake that Winter feeling that's been with me since Christmas. The (ever so slightly) warmer weather is not only brightening my mood, but it's also increased my productivity levels - hopefully you should be seeing at least two videos a week from me in March, woo!

Minimal Make Up Routine

1/13/2015

I feel like I owe my skin a bit of a break after the festive season. Not only did I go all out on the full coverage foundations, party looks and glitter but I also consumed way too much dairy - aka the five Terry's Chocolate Oranges and entire family sized cheese board I polished off over Christmas and it's really taken it's toll. Since December I've barely worn make up at all unless I'm venturing out the house and even then it's just been a very simple routine of minimal but glow boosting products that have been giving my skin a well deserved breather.

Benefit Majorette Booster Blush

9/30/2014

Despite the mention in Sunday's Beauty Favourites video, I couldn't not share the true beauty of Benefit's newest release, Majorette* with you all. First off and as with all launches from the brand it gets ten cute points for the packaging which, although designed to immitate a marching band drum, actually reminds me of a pastel macaron goodness - nothing wrong with that. It's definitely pretty enough to display on top of my make up stash rather than tucked away in a draw, and that's a rare thing to say for a blusher.

The formula itself is a cream to powder finish, with a peachy-pink tone which surprisingly is a colour I've yet to acquire on my blush travels (from here to the aisles of Boots, that is). Always a pinky-coral girl I thought this may end up turning a little too orange on my skin, but the combination of the sheer, yet buildable formula and the soft peach translates as a beautiful warm glow.

Benefit actually market this as a 'booster' blush, allowing it to be teamed with any powder product on top to emphasise and prolong the colour. I've always been a fan of layering blush formulas, and the consistency and finish of Majorette is perfect for the job - soft enough to allow powder to be swiped on and sit evenly without any dreaded patchiness but with a slight glow to allow products to cling on for a long wear-time.

I'm not particularly faithful when it comes to my daily blush selection (although theBalm's Frat Boy will always have a soft spot in my heart for the most universally flattering colour ever) but I've been making a b-line for Majorette since first use and have to say - bold statement here, it's probably one of Benefit's best new launches for a long, long time!

September Favourites

9/29/2014

September has definitely been a full one for staple beauty finds. From a new hair care duo I've been sticking to religiously, having a bit of a thing for peach tones in the make up department, an amazing budget brow product and even a little bit of Autumn sneaking in at the end.. Here are my favourites from the last few weeks!

July & August Favourites

9/01/2014

As last month's favourites video got lost somewhere in my to-do list (as so many things do) I've mashed together all my most loved beauty products not only from August but July as well, two for the price of one style. After spending more time away from home that actually in it recently the beauty pickings have been slim - aka whatever I can shove into an already overflowing suitcase and some hand luggage full of a questionable amount of lip products, so what you see here is the cream of the crop from the last two months!

May Favourites

6/16/2014

After a unintentional three week stint away from YouTube (not sure how that one happened, sorry!) I'm back with a round up of the best of the best in beauty from May - and let me tell you right now, it's a big one. From a new skincare combo I've been trialling with great results to a lipstick I can't confess enough love for and a retraction that needs to be issued after a not so friendly product diss, here are last month's favourites!

Minimal Make Up

3/15/2014

To me there are generally two types of minimal make up. The first is achieved by using as many products as possible to have the reverse effect of looking like you're not actually wearing anything - the 'no make up, make up look' . The second crops up more out of necessity - eg. it's seven-thirty on a Saturday morning and I want pancakes, what is the least amount of effort I can put in while still making myself look presentable to the world. Today was a use for the latter.

I started with a good helping of Chanel Le Blanc base which adds some much needed life into my skin without the tell tell signs of false shimmer, then dabbed on a thin layer of NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser to even out some patches of redness while still keeping things fresh and hydrated. I think the key to minimal make up is definitely strategically placed cover up and another wonder product from NARS, the Radiant Creamy Concealer, is perfect for hiding both dark circles and blemishes alike with it's highly pigmented formula that blends in effortlessly to leave a natural skin finish, giving away no signs of what may be lurking beneath.

Benefit's Dallas powder has been rattling around in my collection for a very long time - it even made an appearance in my first ever (rather embarrassing) make up tutorial, although with some slightly heavy handed application back then. Whenever I crack this out though, I'm reminded of how perfect the colour is for not only adding warmth but also a slight pop of colour, doubling up as a bronzing product and a blush in one.

Eyes don't fall too high on the list to dedicate extra time too but mascara is absolutely essential - as are lash curlers. A few quick pumps with the Shu Uemura S Curler and I'm instantly looking more awake. As much as I like to pile on the volume, I think overly done lashes can look out of place when there's not much else going make up wise, but one or two coats of No7 Lovely Lashes Mascara adds some natural definition while keeping things soft and fluttery.

Brows are also a very big must and although I usually spend the longest portion of time sculpting away at them I've recently come across a product that cuts that down to mere seconds. Gimme Brow* from Benefit is essentially a tinted brow gel but the consistency actually feels a lot more like a mascara. It gives enough colour to fill in most sparse patches and the mini wand makes light work of shaping with a formula that once dry keeps every single hair in check - no wild brows running away here.

The final step while I'm heading out the door is a quick slick of something on the lips and although not usually a fan of gloss, I've definitely been converted but the Maybelline Colour Sensational range. Cashmere Rose is the perfect natural pink, with a light shine that feels just like a lip balm with no stickiness in sight. This adds a touch of dimension to my make up - plus, there's no worry of smearing this all over my face when digging into breakfast! Five minutes? Job done.
