Highlighting is without doubt my favourite step when it comes to makeup. It's an instant transformer that can change everything about your look. Skin looks more healthy, colours pop and in some cases, you'll literally be needing sunglasses to counter the reflection off your cheekbones. Safe to say it's a trend that's definitely not going away any time soon and today I've teamed up with Sephora to talk about five of the best highlighters that you need to know about.
Sephora Illuminate Palette Palettes are amazing for the indecisive among us - I myself most definitely included, that want a few more options day to day than one single colour, while still being conveniently packaged up together in one easy to grab palette. The six shades in the Sephora Collection Illuminate Palette are made up of a super icy white highlight that's perfect for a bold look as well as a brightening the inner eye, two bronze highlights that add warmth as well as glow, two pinky shades for a perfect pop of colour to add to your cheeks and a neutral champagne that will be flattering on any skin tone. The formulas of these pressed powder highlights are wearable and sheer, allowing lovers of an all-round radiant look to use them to bronze, blush and highlight in a natural and soft way. The perfect palette to pick up for everyday wear. |

Tarte Twinkle Stick On the other end of the spectrum, the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Twinkle Sticks are rich, cream-based strobing formulas that pack an incredible iridescent glow. Cream highlighters are always my go-to for a wet look, dewy finish that melts into base products seamlessly. The pearlised frosted shade Skylight works beautifully on fair skins, and Spotlight - warmer and gold flecked, gives so much life to your complexion. It's been a favourite of mine to pair with a foundation free face and a good helping of bronzer for a perfect minimal glowing Summer look. |

If seriously blinding highlight is your thing, two of the most glowing and gorgeous offerings come from Becca & Huda Beauty. The Huda Beauty 3D Highlighter Palette in Pink Sand is another all in one that will have you bronzed, blushed and highlighted without having to reach for more than one product. The difference with this one though is the 'melted strobe' cream formula that makes up the first golden shimmering shade in this quad. Used alone it gives a soft lit from within glow, but when layered under the other three shades it seriously ups the intensity.
If you're after a one fits all single shade, then Becca is always the place to look for beautifully made highlighters that stand up on their own. Everything from the golden, weighted packaging of the Light Chaser Highlighter to the product inside has such a luxurious feel. The shade Opal Flashes Jade is also so unlike any other highlighting product I've come across before. The formula is a duo chrome which started off as a soft golden hue, and then shifts into an opalescent green shade that is incredibly beautiful when caught in the light. As with any Becca products too, expect this to be seriously pigmented, and the most rich in dimension of all these powder products.
Marc Jacobs Dew Drops I've definitely saved the best until last here with the Marc Jacobs Dew You? Dew Drops in Golden Peach. This has absolutely been my product of the Summer and my makeup almost feels incomplete without it these days. Liquid highlighters are the ultimate multipurpose products with endless possibilities and different ways to be used. The coconut infused gel formula gives a sheer but buildable glow with zero trace of chunky, that can be used all over the face without worrying about bringing out skin texture or being on the wrong side of shiny. Pre-foundation is my favourite way to add the Dew Drops to boost an otherwise dull complexion - and I really don't hold back when it comes to applying them. I use a one pump onto a beauty sponge for my whole face and blend in the same way I would use a primer. A small amount can also be added to your base of choice to enhance the glow, whether you're a BB Cream lover that wants to keep things dewy, or a fan of a matte finish after a little extra radiance from your foundation. As a final step, these work beautifully when pressed onto the high points of your face like a conventional highlighter. The potential with this one is endless! |
