What camera do you use?

I use a Canon 600D for the majority of my blog photos and YouTube Videos. I alternate between a EF 50mm f1.8 II Lens and an EF-S 18-55mm IS II Lens (which came as standard with the camera). I also use the camera from my iPhone 5 for my weekly instagram posts.

Do you use lighting in your videos?

I have two softbox lights with daylight bulbs. Most of the time I only use one light but when I'm filming at night and I need a brighter setting I use two. You can find the exact model I have here.

What is your job?

I work as an advisor on a beauty counter. A lot of people ask me which brand I work for in particular but I'd rather keep that off the internet and hope you can understand.

How can I get a job on a beauty counter and what does it involve? Do I need relevant experience?

Sadly, most people think that working on a counter is non-stop makeovers but in reality there's a great deal more to it. Obviously it varies hugely between different brands and their selling methods but I generally only spend about 10% of my day actually putting makeup on people. It's a lot more about selling, targets and customer service.

Obviously experience always helps, but I'd say more so in a retail environment than specifically in beauty. I hadn't had any relevant experience in the area but had worked in retail before.

I would never try to deter anyone from working in a beauty hall as I love my job, but it is very hard and sometimes lonely work. I can go from serving customers non-stop to not seeing a single one for hours and also get put in quite high pressure situations at times with targets and figures to be met. At the same time though it's great getting to speak to so many different people every day and helping them feel their best is incredibly rewarding!

How do you style your hair?

More and more frequently I just tend to let it dry naturally, give the roots a quick backcomb and walk out the door, but my general style is to loosely curl it all over and mess it up with a few products. You can see a video of me going through the whole process here.

How did you dye your hair? What colour did you use?

For the last year or so I have had ombre hair. I know a lot of people think it's bee a bit 'done' now but I still love the effect. The majority of my hair is my natural mousey brown colour and all I used to lighten the ends was a L'Oreal Highlighting Kit. I tied my hair in pigtails and quite literally just slapped it on. I've used this process twice now and found it incredibly simple. For those who are thinking of ombreing their hair all I would say is don't over think it!

I'm thinking of starting a blog, do you have any advice?

I get asked this question all the time and never really know how to answer it! I think the most important thing to do is just blog about things that you enjoy. If you like the content of your blog it's more than likely that others will too. I'm quite aesthetically minded and do enjoy blogs more when they are well laid out, free of clutter and have clear pictures.
